Using mats will help protect your floors from dirt, snow, and other debris your guests will inevitably drag into your home. A simple welcome mat will do the trick unless you come across one with a holiday greeting that will spice up the decor for your guest!

2. Clean up Spills and Accidents

The longer spills sit, the more damage they can do to your floors. You can avoid stains by being prompt with your cleaning response.

3. Avoid Using Excessive Water or Chemicals When Cleaning your Floors

Too much water can cause wood floors to warp, and chemicals can damage vinyl flooring. The general principle at play here is moderation.

4. Keep Children and Pets Away from Wet Surfaces

In addition to being slippery, water can cause pets and children to slip on the floor. These falls and trips can leave noticeable scratches, markings, and abrasions on your hardwood floors. So try to keep your children and pets away from wet flooring, especially for their safety!

5. Use Furniture Pads Under Furniture Legs to Avoid Gouging Your Floors

Furniture scraped or dragged across a surface will damage a floor over time, so always place pads under the legs of heavy pieces. This is especially important for those hard but delicate surfaces, as it can be costly to repair.
